Thanks to the Kingston United Methodist congregation for the use of their hall!

Learn the History of the Kingston (NJ) Area…

The Kingston Historical Society wants YOU to get familiar with our corner of New Jersey. We have reserved a hall for Sunday afternoons this winter, one per month, and are creating three talks for each session!

Programs:

Sunday, January 25th

  • “George Allen, Kingston’s First Locktender”
Readings from his autobiography presented by the Kingston Archivists
  • “Celebrating Kingston 1999” presented by George Luck, Jr.
  • “Rediscovering Kingston’s History Archives” presented by Charlie Dieterich
  • IN CASE OF SNOW OR ICE, these talks will move to February or March.

Sunday, February 22nd

  • Featured talk will be “George Washington and the will o’ the wisp” presented by Ted Chase
  • And two other talks, still in development

Sunday, March 22nd

  • Featured talk will be “Innkeeper’s Son Goes to War”
  • And two other talks, still in development (In case of snow in February, talks will be rearranged)

Who is this for?

This is a chance to meet neighbors in a relaxed atmosphere while learning three fascinating stories of the Kingston area– western South Brunswick, southern Franklin and the Kingston Mill Historic area of Princeton.

Some of the folks in town have been Kingstonians for generations– but most of us moved here as adults. We never knew Kingston had two railroad stations and an office on the first telegraph line in central New Jersey (The world’s first “inter-net”!)

Afternoon talks will be short, 15 minutes each. Each will cover one aspect of Kingston History. After the talks there will be time for tea and conversation with the presenters.

When Are They?

Sessions are planned for 90 minutes of your Sunday afternoon — with time to get home before dark. We start at 2:30 PM with talks, followed by tea and conversation in the social hall.

Where?

Methodist Church, 9 Church Street, Kingston (by the cemetery.) The good folks at the Kingston United Methodist Church have offered us their hall for these three sessions. Admission is free, but the Kingston Historical Society invites you tobring a small cash donation for the congregation to help pay for church hall expenses.

Parking is in the KUMC parking lot or along the far-side of Church Street. If these areas are full, follow Union Street across Laurel Ave. and park by the YingHua school and park land. Note that the streets behind the church are too narrow for parking. Or park on Route 27. Please leave spaces for handicapped visitors.
